Manchester United Women have signed talented full-back Anna Sandberg from BK Hacken for an undisclosed fee.

The official club website announced that the club “are delighted to announce the signing of Sweden international Anna Sandberg on a contract running until the end of the 2026/27 season, with an option for a further year.”

The United Women’s team got off to a shaky start this summer when they lost the invaluable experience of Mary Earps, Katie Zelem and Lucia Garcia.

Since then though, the club have brought in experienced Dutch international Dominique Janssen, Elisabeth Terland and made Melvine Malard’s loan deal permanent.

After becoming the side’s fourth signing of the window, Sandberg reflected, “I’m very happy and grateful to sign for this big club, Manchester United.

“I hope I can help our team with my qualities and deliver many winning moments for our fantastic fans.”

Manager Marc Skinner also expressed his delight at the move. “We are delighted to have Anna join our Manchester United family. She is a talented young player, who already has a wealth of international and Champions League experience.

“We look forward to seeing her develop further in red,” the manager said.

Whilst the fee is unknown, The Guardian have reported that it “will be a record transfer fee for a Swedish women’s player” and it is understood to be “comfortably more” than the reported £150,000 Everton paid to Rosengard for Hanna Bennison in 2021.

She was part of the Sweden team that finished third at the World Cup last year and “has long been considered one of Scandinavian football’s brightest young talents.”

Sandberg also has experience in the Champions League and the club will be hoping she can contribute much to the team’s main objective, which is to qualify for Europe’s premier competition.

Last season, she played 17 games in all competitions, scoring four goals and registering one assist.
