Manchester United winger Antony has seen another of his potential suitors rule themselves out of a move.
Antony’s 2024/2025 season was the definition of a rollercoaster. The Brazilian was sidelined from the United squad as he barely played any minutes in the first half of the campaign.
Nonetheless, his year turned on its head when he was loaned out to Real Betis in January.
The Brazil international scored nine goals and provided five assists, leading his team to the final of the Conference League.
Despite his pivot in form, United are still keen to sell him but at least they can demand a much healthier price.
Betis have naturally shown significant interest in signing him permanently but have so far failed to agree a fee with United.
Antony has repeatedly spoken on how happy he is with life in Sevilla but if Betis cannot agree a deal, he may need to look elsewhere for an Old Trafford escape route.
Red Bull Leipzig have recently been linked with the winger as have Newcastle United and Brighton and Hove Albion.
Bayer Leverkusen had also been mentioned as a possible destination owing to former United manager Erik ten Hag taking over at the club.
Speaking to BILD, Ten Hag ruled out a potential move for Antony, at least in this window.
Commenting on the player he asserted, “he has great quality. I brought him in twice. He was like a son to me, he still is a son to me.”
Ten Hag was Antony’s manager at both Ajax and Manchester United for a total of four seasons, winning numerous trophies together.
Nonetheless, he also added that “currently, we have no interest in him, but we will see what happens in the future.”
United will hope for a quick resolution on Antony’s future as they aim to gather more funds from sales with Jadon Sancho finally closing in on an exit from the club.
