La Liga announced on Friday evening the winner of their Player of the Month award for September, and the second winner of the award this season.
As speculated yesterday online, Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal is this month’s winner, having beaten Kylian Mbappe, Iñaki Williams, Giovanni Lo Celso and Carlos Vicente to the award.
This comes after the 17-year-old won the under-23 version of the award last month, as his Barcelona teammate Raphinha won for his performances in August.
The young winger scored four goals and bagged one assist across six appearances for Barcelona during September, highlighted by a brace and a man-of-the-match performance against Girona.
Yamal has dominated the right wing for Barcelona so far this season, contributing 10 goal involvements across 10 games in all competitions for the Catalan club since the season started in August.
The youngster has already equalled his La Liga assist total from last season of five and is one goal away from doing the same with his goal total of five from the last campaign.
It looks as though Lamine Yamal is only getting started in Spanish football, and this award could be the first of many.
