PSG striker and France captain Kylian Mbappé (25) will miss out on Les Parisiens’ final game of the Ligue 1 season. The Ligue 1 champions take on Metz at Stade Saint-Symphorien this Sunday night. Les Grenats are poised to confirm their 16th-place finish, which would see them take part in the playoffs – against either Rodez, Paris FC or Saint-Etienne – in their quest for safety. Mbappé’s absence means he played his final Ligue 1 game last week against Toulouse before his expected move to Real Madrid. The club’s record goalscorer already sat out PSG’s midweek away win at Nice. He will end the season at the top of the league’s goalscoring charts with 27 strikes.

Mbappé is not the only senior player in Luis Enrique’s squad to miss out tonight. The Spaniard has not called up Ousmane Dembélé, club captain Marquinhos, Gianluigi Donnarumma nor midfield stalwarts the likes of Vitinha or Fabian Ruiz. None of these players are injured, according to the club’s latest medical update.

Le Parisien understand that Luis Enrique planned to rotate his squad and give his most senior players a rest before the last high-stakes game of the campaign: the Coupe de France final against Lyon next Saturday, which is set to be Mbappé’s final game with Paris Saint-Germain.
