GGFN are fresh from the Bayer Leverkusen press conference as Erik ten Hag goes in search of his first win in the Bundesliga. Ahead of B04’s away game at Werder Bremen, ten Hag was quizzed on his ideal style of play, the status of newcomer Lucas Vázquez, the future of Piero Hincapié, and more.

When asked about his ideal style of play and how he wishes the team to implement that against Bremen this weekend, ten Hag explained:

“We have to be in control and play intensive with the ball against a good opponent.”

He later added, “Every game we go into, we want to win. We didn’t play to the level we know we can in the opening game, and this is what we want to achieve tomorrow, to win in Bremen.”

When asked if new signing Lucas Vázquez was available to start tomorrow:

“No, with only a little training time, he’s not ready to start yet.”

On the discussion of transfers, ten Hag was then asked about the potential departure of Piero Hincapié and whether that plays a role in tomorrow’s line-up:

“I won’t take it into consideration, but there are always rumours. On Tuesday, we’ll know what it looks like. We have good players, so there’s always a lot of interest. If you ask Piero, he’ll travel to Bremen.”

ten Hag was then asked about Werder Bremen and their new manager Horst Steffen:

“They’re a good side and will play a good game. Their new manager did very well at Elversberg, so it’s going to be a test for sure.”

Leverkusen last won in Bremen back in 2023, having only managed a draw last season, following a 0-2 home defeat back in March. Like Leverkusen, Bremen themselves are coming off the back of an opening day loss away at Frankfurt. B04 will expect to dominate this one, but Bremen are expected to put up a good test in front of a home crowd. Bremen manager Horst Steffen will also expect a reaction in what will be his home debut in the Bundesliga.
