Olympique de Marseille have officially loaned 19-year-old left-back Alexi Koum to third-tier side Valenciennes.

Koum was signed by Les Phocéens last summer from fellow Ligue 1 side AJ Auxerre. Koum only featured once for OM in the 2024/5 campaign. His singular appearance came in an 11-minute cameo in Marseille’s 2-0 victory against AS Saint-Etienne in December 2024. He was also named on the bench once, for OM’s season opener away at Stade Brestois.

Koum is already a French youth international, having represented his country from U16 to U19 level. A move to Valenciennes offers the youngster the opportunity to gain regular senior football.

Valenciennes finished 9th in the Championnat National last season. With just one win in their last eight games, the Hauts-de-France-based club saw any promotion hopes fade. The club is owned by Sports Republic, which also holds majority stakes in English club Southampton and Turkish side Göztepe SK.
