Lens have reignited their interest in Marseille centre-forward Neal Maupay (29), according to a report from Foot Mercato. The former Everton FC striker looks to be Roberto De Zerbi’s third-choice striker at the moment following the arrivals of Amine Gouiri and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Marseille triggered Maupay’s purchase option this summer, as he initially joined Les Phocéens on loan from Merseyside.
Maupay is yet to feature this season. He was not part of the matchday squad that lost 1-0 at Rennes and was an unused substitute for Marseille’s home 5-2 win against Paris FC, where Aubameyang grabbed the spotlight with a brace. The outlet reports that Maupay is internally seen as an ideal fit by several Lens decision-makers. Lens are in need of an experienced striker upfront. On Friday, 19-year-old Rayan Fofana led the line against Stade Brestois. Les Sang et Or will also part ways with Lyon-bound Martin Satriano.
