Het Nieuwsblad have reported that Anderlecht have been rejected in their first offer for 30-year-old Swedish defender Filip Helander. The left-footed central defender, seen as ideal cover for Jan Vertonghen, currently plays in Denmark for Odense. With his contract set to expire, and the player showing no desire to sign a new deal, Anderlecht are trying to bring him in for a cut price. However, their opening bid of just €150k was rejected by the Danes who are looking for a fee in the region of €300k.
Helander is a full Swedish international, having been capped 23 times by the national team. After starting his career with Malmö, he spent a few years in Italy with Hellas Verona and Bologna. In the summer of 2019 he joined Rangers, where he played 60 times and scored seven goals. This last summer he joined Odense on a free and has made 11 appearances. The Danish side would prefer to keep the experienced defender, given that they are currently ninth in the Superligaen.
