In a recent print edition, The Sunday Mirror (26 November, Page 70) claimed that Newcastle United are among the clubs hoping to land Sao Paulo defender Lucas Beraldo. It has been stated that the Magpies could face competition from Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur in the race to land the Brazilian talent next summer.
Beraldo has enjoyed a decent rise at Sao Paulo as he has put in a series of impressive displays at the heart of their defence. The 20-year-old has featured in 49 matches for the Brazilian outfit thus far, scoring one goal across all fronts.
The Brazilian sensation has been a rock at the back for his current employers based on his average of 1.1 tackles, 1.0 interceptions and 3.4 clearances per 90 minutes in the Brasileirao. He has even been excellent when distributing possession from inside his half after making 89% of his attempted passes in the Brazilian top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Brazilian club will run out in the summer of 2026. Hence, Newcastle will have to make a sizable offer if they want to recruit the Brazilian talent next year.

Beraldo is a solid tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to earn the ball back for his side inside his half. He doesn’t mind clearing his lines when the opposition are on the front foot and is even proficient at playing his way out from the back.
We can expect Beraldo to enhance the quality of Newcastle United head coach Eddie Howe’s match-day squad. He might even help the Magpies challenge across all competitions over the next few years. However, it remains to be seen whether the South American sensation can make a smooth transition to life in England.
At 20, Beraldo has the potential to become a future star at the highest level as long as he continues to improve with each season. Furthermore, Howe would be the perfect man to nurture the Brazilian talent and unlock the best out of him at the Tyneside club over the next decade. All in all, Beraldo would be an excellent fit for Newcastle‘s needs in the long run.
