Newcastle United have joined the race to sign Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike this summer (h/t journalist Fabrizio Romano).
Ektike is one of the most sought-after players in the transfer market, drawing interest from Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea.
Saudi Pro League clubs Al-Hilal and Al-Qadsiah have also expressed interest in a potential transfer, but the Frenchman wants to stay in Europe.
Despite the growing interest, no clubs have come forward with a concrete proposal for Ekitike due to Frankfurt’s staggering €100 million price tag.
The Bundesliga giants have no intention of selling the former Paris Saint-Germain striker and will likely remain steadfast in their valuation.
Having wrapped up a deal for Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga, Newcastle are looking for more attacking reinforcements.
A striker is one of their objectives in the transfer window following Callum Wilson’s exit.
The Magpies are eyeing a solid back-up for first-choice centre-forward Alexander Isak, who is expected to stay next season despite mounting interest from elsewhere.
With their top target Joao Pedro joining Chelsea, the club have turned their attention towards Ekitike.
The 23-year-old rose to prominence during a stellar 2024/25 season with Frankfurt.
He registered an eye-catching tally of 22 goals and 12 assists in all competitions, helping the Eagles secure a place in the Champions League.
Ekitike could be viewed as a long-term successor for Isak, who may eventually move to a bigger club.
Newcastle are also looking at the possibility of signing Brentford striker Yoane Wissa to boost their attacking options.
