The Athletic reports that Newcastle are looking at pursuing RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Seško as a replacement for Benjamin Seško.
Newcastle’s interest in the Slovenian stems from the fact that their current number nine, Alexander Isak, has expressed a desire to explore his options when it comes to leaving the club this summer.
Both Arsenal and Manchester United have shown an interest in Seško this summer, but both teams have ended up going in another direction. If the 22-year-old is to leave the Bundesliga side this summer, Leipzig has set a price of €70m.
Newcastle had also made an attempt to sign former Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitiké, but after Liverpool began to express their interest in Isak, Newcastle then cooled their interest in the Frenchman, who ended up joining Liverpool.
Last season, like the rest of the Leipzig side, Seško was underwhelming in his performances. In 45 games, the Slovenian scored 21 and assisted six, but at times proved wasteful and erratic.
