Newcastle United have identified RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko as a key target if Alexander Isak leaves the club this summer.
Isak has informed the club of his desire to explore a move away, with Liverpool maintaining interest in a potential deal that could exceed £120 million.
Newcastle’s stance has remained firm that he is not for sale, but discussions over contingency options are already underway.
Sesko, who scored 21 goals in 45 appearances for Leipzig last season, recently signed a contract extension to remain in Germany until 2029.
However, that renewal is understood to include a gentleman’s agreement allowing him to depart under the right circumstances.
Newcastle are aware of the financial demands of any potential transfer, which could cost around £78m. While challenging, that fee is likely to be within reach if Isak departs for a British-record sum.
Sesko has also attracted interest from Arsenal, but their pursuit cooled as they closed in on Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres in a deal worth nearly €74m.
That has left Newcastle with a clearer path to the Leipzig forward, provided they are prepared to act quickly.
Sesko offers a different physical profile to Isak but combines his stature with mobility, aerial threat and intelligent off-ball movement.
His versatility and age profile make him one of the most promising centre-forwards in Europe.
Newcastle are also monitoring Brentford’s Yoane Wissa, but Sesko is believed to be the preferred option in the event of a high-profile departure.
Isak has not travelled with the squad to Asia for their pre-season tour, officially due to a minor thigh issue.
The timing of his absence has fuelled speculation, particularly following reports that he had asked not to be included.
While the Magpies continue to insist he remains central to their plans, the club is now preparing for all scenarios.
