Former Lazio defender Alessandro Nesta thought that the appointment of Maurizio Sarri was a strong response to Roma’s hiring of Jose Mourinho.

Speaking this morning in Corviale for the presentation of the collaboration between Adidas and Calcio Sociale (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), the 45-year-old Italian was positive about the club’s signing of former Napoli coach Sarri.

I think Simone Inzaghi’s departure has left a hole. Lazio now have Sarri, Roma Mourinho. It was a great response from the Biancocelesti.

The former Biancocelesti defender then commented on the work of AC Milan this season.

I think what they did was an important job. It wasn’t a foregone conclusion that they would make it to the Champions League. Pioli has done a great job.

He moved on to discussing the contract situation involving Gianluigi Donnarumma, who is set to sign for Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer from the Rossoneri.

Everyone makes their own choices, that’s what the club has decided. In modern football you do the math, but I’ll never judge anyone’s choice.

Finally, Nesta made a brief comment on Roberto Mancini’s Italy and the upcoming European Championship.

The coach has created an important group, I’m curious. Italy is ready for these European Championships.

The 62-year-old Sarri has signed for Lazio today after days of talks with the Roman club. The former Napoli and Juventus coach was meticulous with his contract and also wanted to secure his staff before agreeing to the deal.
