According to Foot Mercato and Gianluca Di Marzio, Nemanja Matić’s (35) move to Olympique Lyonnais is back on. Stade Rennais had previously been highly reticent to sell to a Ligue 1 rival.

Matić’s decision to empty his locker and leave Britanny earlier this month angered Rennes’ hierarchy, to the extent that they chose to dig in their heels and prevent Matić from joining Lyon, as had seemed to be the plan. The Serbian midfielder subsequently apologised and returned to Rennes.

Following showdown talks, it was agreed that a departure would be facilitated this month, although the club remained set on their stance that he wouldn’t join OL. A move to Turkish side Beşiktaş had been touted, however, as the transfer window reaches its final week, negotiations with Les Gones have re-opened.

Di Marzio reports that Lyon are now closing in on their priority midfield target and are prepared to offer the former Manchester United and Chelsea man a two-and-a-half-year contract.
