Marco Reus has announced that he will leave Borussia Dortmund this summer when his contract expires.

Reus, who missed Germany’s 2014 World Cup win due to injury, is been synonymous with BVB during his 12 years at the club. In fact, if you include Reus’ youth time at the club, he has been involved with BVB for 21 years.

However, at the age of 34, Reus has decided to move away in order to play more regular football.

During his time in Dortmund, Reus played an important role in their run to the 2013 Champions League final as well as achieving two DFB Pokal victories, once as captain in 2021.

Reus wore the BVB armband for five years, between 2018 and 2023.

The 34-year-old attacking midfielder will forever be remembered as one of BVB’s greatest players. To date, Reus has played over 420 games for Dortmund, scoring 168 goals and assisting on a further 128 occasions.

Upon releasing a video on BVB’s social media, Reus said: ““I’m incredibly grateful for and proud of this special time at my club Borussia Dortmund. I have spent more than half of my life at this club and enjoyed every day, even though there have of course been difficult moments too. I already know now that I will find it difficult to say goodbye at the end of the season. And yet I’m happy that there is now clarity and that we can focus fully on the very important final games that we still have to play. We have a big objective in our sights that we all want to achieve together. To do so, we will need every single one of our unbelievable fans, to whom I would like to express my sincere thanks for their unbelievable support over the years.”
