“Need to make our own luck again”

Oliver Glasner, Sebastian Rode and Makoto Hasebe reflect on a deserved defeat, but also know which points need addressing.

Head coach Oliver Glasner: “Bielefeld made the perfect start to the match. Their first chance resulted in the first goal, their second chance in the second goal. We tried everything but it didn’t come off. It felt like Bielefeld’s confidence grew with every chance and ours decreased a bit. If you don’t score, you can’t win the match, so it was a deserved defeat in the end. We need to make our own luck again. I’m not getting anxious, though, because I saw that the lads tried everything. Now it’s about keeping our chins up and moving on. We’ve often spoken about conceding needless goals – now it’s time for us to improve that. We’ve already gone through a number of difficult situations and now we have two weeks to work hard and get back on track.”

Sebastian Rode: “The defeat is a major disappointment. Bielefeld played their game exactly, they got forward quickly and directly. They used the spaces well. We, on the other hand, had to work hard to create chances. If you don’t then make the most of them, you won’t win any match, and so we go into the international break with a bad feeling.”

Makoto Hasebe: “We had an unbelievable amount of chances but unfortunately didn’t find the net and conceded two easy goals. We struggled after going 2-0 down. We have to stay positive because we created a lot of chances. We’ll go over the last three matches during the international break, draw our conclusions and then play better at Stuttgart.”
