Tristan Gooijer may play for NEC Nijmegen next season, according to De Gelderlander. The 20-year-old Ajax defender is currently recovering from a serious knee injury.

Gooijer spent last season on loan at PEC Zwolle. However, his time there was disastrous as he tore his cruciate ligament in his first match. Gooijer’s months of rehabilitation are now almost complete, meaning he can return to action, although it seems unlikely this will happen in Amsterdam.

NEC could offer a solution. The Goffertstadion club are still looking for a reinforcement for their three-man defence and considers Gooijer a serious option.

The right-back signed for Ajax in 2016 from the Almere City FC youth academy. Since then, Gooijer has mainly played for Jong Ajax, making 50 appearances so far. For the senior team, he has 13 outings under his belt. His current contract runs until the summer of 2029.

If Gooijer stays with Ajax and wants to get playing time in the first team, he will have to compete mainly with Youri Regeer, Anton Gaaei and Lucas Rosa.
