NEC expect millions: rapid winger set for EFL Championship switch | OneFootball

As per Voetbal International’s Sander Janssen, Sontje Hansen is set to transfer to Middlesbrough. The Championship club are “paying millions” for the 23-year-old NEC winger, which has once again secured a substantial sum of money.

VI previously reported that Middlesbrough had long been one of the clubs interested in Hansen. FC Copenhagen and AFC Wrexham also showed interest in the Jong Oranje winger, but Boro have been the most decisive this time.

NEC will reportedly receive €3.5 million plus bonuses for Hansen. The income may not end there, as the Nijmegen club have also negotiated a resale percentage. The player’s current contract at the Goffertstadion runs until the summer of 2027.

Dick Schreuder’s side are cashing in on Hansen, who was signed on a free transfer from Ajax in the summer of 2023. The right-footed player played 72 matches for the Gelderland club, scoring 13 goals and providing nine assists. He’ll be the second substantial move to England for NEC, after Robin Roefs moved to Sunderland for over 10 million euros.
