Roma manager José Mourinho praised his side for their performance in their 4-2 victory this evening over Empoli.

The Giallorossi scored four times in the first half and took a commanding 4-0 lead into halftime. In the second half, though, things got nervy after the Tuscans scored twice and had the chance to score more.

Despite the dropoff after the break, Mourinho chose to stay positive and labeled the win a huge achievement.

“Yes we could’ve controlled the game better, but this is still a big achievement,” he told DAZN. “It’s not easy to win 4-2 here.”

“Coming into this game we already knew that Lazio, Atalanta, and Fiorentina all dropped points, so it was important for us to win and we did it.”

“As for the second half, we did it for the audience. They would’ve turned their TV’s off it we went up 5-0,” laughed Mourinho.

He also went on to praise recent midfield addition Sergio Oliveira. The Portuguese international scored for the second consecutive league match following his transfer to the club ten days ago.

“He’s different than the other guys we’ve got, but he’s not a regista as you guys call it here in Italy. But I knew he could make a difference both from a physical and decision-making point of view.”

“He isn’t a phenom from a technical standpoint, but he rarely ever makes the wrong decision. Plus he has a ton of personality and knows how to manage the clock and when to take fouls.”

“I’m not saying it’s a different case here, but when he was playing at a club fighting for a league title, he takes on a whole other attitude and mentality, which is exactly what we need.”
