Interim Juventus coach Paolo Montero reveals how he learned about Thiago Motta’s ideas of football and didn’t need to give the squad advice for this debut against Bologna.

It kicks off at the Stadio Dall’Ara at 19.45 UK time (18.45 GMT).

Although both teams have already qualified for the Champions League, they are stuck together on 67 points, making this a head-to-head for the prestige of securing third place.

There is also the risk that they could both be leapfrogged by Atalanta, who are on 66 with a game in hand.

It has been a chaotic few days in Turin, as Juve won the Coppa Italia Final on Wednesday, then sacked coach Allegri for behaviour ‘incompatible with the values of the club’ and promoted Under-19 coach Montero for the final two games of the Serie A season.

“I don’t think I needed to tell the players anything, because they proved themselves in the Coppa Italia Final,” Montero told DAZN ahead of his Serie A coaching debut.

“The lads achieved all the objectives they had set at the start of the season, qualifying for the Champions League and winning the Coppa Italia.

“I don’t talk much, they prove themselves with action. You don’t need to say anything to the players.”

Montero and Motta meet again

Montero had already played against Bologna coach Thiago Motta in the 2003 Champions League, so how will it feel being opponents on the touchline?

“I was also fortunate to have spent 45 days with him at Coverciano,” said the Juventus boss, referring to the coaching badges course.

“He is a great ban, you could already tell when we went out to dinner, we talked so much about football and understood his ideas. Above all, he is an honest man, which isn’t easy at this level.

“I wish him all the best, because he deserves it.”
