Paris Saint-Germain chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi trusts Thiago Motta will ‘do very well’ as the new coach of Juventus.
The club chief was in Italy to receive the Football Leadership Award at the Globe Soccer Awards.
While there, he spoke to reporters including Tuttosport about the changing group of coaches in Serie A, which will see Thiago Motta leave Bologna for a new role at Juve this summer.
“I wish him all the best, he is an exceptional guy who will certainly do very well in Turin too,” said Al-Khelaifi as quoted by Tuttosport.
“He was with us for six seasons in which he won numerous trophies and I was able to appreciate both his football qualities and human ones too.
“I renew my best wishes for this new and prestigious challenge.”
The Italo-Brazilian turns 42 in August and wore the Paris Saint-Germain jersey as a midfielder from January 2012 until his retirement in 2018.
It was then that he immediately began his coaching career with the PSG Under-19 youth team in the 2018-19 season.
Thiago Motta has coached exclusively in Italy at senior level, going through Genoa and Spezia before qualifying Bologna for their historic Champions League participation.
There had been some rumours that Thiago Motta was being considered for the main job at Paris Saint-Germain over the last couple of years, but Al-Khelaifi insists that is not on the cards right now.
“I am happy with Luis Enrique, although you never know in life…”
