It was thought that, following a challenge from AS Saint-Étienne’s Lucas Stassin (20), Corentin Tolisso would be out until the end of the season.

The Olympique Lyonnais vice-captain was stretchered off in Sunday’s 2-1 defeat to Saint-Étienne. Stassin was initially shown a red card for the challenge before François Letexier was instructed to review the incident by VAR. Letexier then changed his on-field decision, downgrading Stassin’s red to a yellow. The refereing body have now admitted this was a mistake and the red card should have been awarded.

Tolisso, meanwhile, came off on a stretcher. It was thought that he would be out until the end of the campaign, however, RMC Sport now reports that the diagnosis is better than expected. The Frenchman has only suffered a sprained knee and whilst it is difficult to put a date on his return, it is possible that he will play again this season. The player’s entourage, as well as medical sources, have evoked a “miracle” with the former Bayern Munich midfielder getting off lightly.
