According to a report from L’Équipe, Brentford are interested in trying to persuade AS Saint-Étienne to part ways with striker Lucas Stassin (20).
The West London side had been linked earlier in the summer to the Belgian youth international, but the trail went cold until recently. In the meantime, Brentford had tried their hand at convincing Arnaud Kalimuendo to join from Stade Rennais, but he opted instead for Nottingham Forest.
With time running out in this transfer window, and the club still in need of attacking reinforcements (particularly with the Yoane Wissa case set to rumble on), Brentford have reignited their interest in Stassin.
Stassin had an impressive performance at Saint-Étienne last season (scoring 12 in 28 league appearances), representing one of the few bright sparks in a disappointing campaign where the club were unable to maintain their place in Ligue 1. Stassin has been ready to move on from the second division, but Saint-Étienne do not need to sell. The club have already fended off a €15m approach from Stade Rennais, who have since turned to other targets.
