FLW's Millwall Fan Pundit was clear in his assessment of whether Millwall should give Nisbet another opportunity following his spell at Aberdeen
This article is part of Football League World's 'Terrace Talk' series, which provides personal opinions from our FLW Fan Pundits regarding the latest breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…
Kevin Nisbet's future at Millwall remains uncertain after the striker impressed during his season-long loan spell at Aberdeen, with the 28-year-old scoring 14 goals in all competitions to help the Dons to Scottish Cup glory.
Following Nisbet's £2m move from Hibernian in 2023, he only managed to score five goals in 29 games for Millwall in what was a difficult debut campaign, while dealing with injury problems and disciplinary issues.
Nisbet was dropped from then-manager Neil Harris' squad for the final game of the 23/24 season against Swansea City, with Harris citing "a disciplinary matter about culture and standards."
The Scottish international also suffered multiple hamstring injuries throughout that season, after a previous long-term ACL injury at Hibs saw him out for around 9 months.
When asked whether Millwall should give Nisbet another opportunity following his spell north of the border, FLW's Millwall Fan Pundit, Lucas Ball, was clear in his assessment of the situation.
"Personally, he’s one that I would be looking to sell this summer, particularly if we do play with a front two - we’re probably going to need to sign another striker because I think Macauley Langstaff is up to Championship level and I don’t particularly rate Nisbet," Ball explained.
The Lions supporter's concerns extend beyond just Nisbet's ability, pointing to the broader striker situation at the club. "Ajay Matthews, Zak Lovelace, both young players, both had injuries as well so it’s how much reliance can you place on them to get through games, Coburn obviously had his injury issues last season as well."
Ball acknowledged Nisbet's decent showing at Aberdeen but remained unconvinced about his long-term prospects at The Den. "Looking more specifically at Nisbet, he had an okay season up at Aberdeen, didn’t enjoy the best of starts to the season and their fans were quite critical of him at times in the earlier parts, obviously had a very strong end to the season, they did well to win their first trophy in quite some time."
"He looked okay in his first season with us, didn’t really set the world alight, could improve and do better but I think a lot of fans are out of patience with him already, plenty of injury and fitness issues that season, disciplinary issues at the back end of his first season as well," Ball reflected.
Despite Nisbet hitting form at Pittodrie, Ball believes the club should cut their losses. "Happy for him, glad he went up there and he seemed to enjoy his loan spell, he’s obviously not gone on our training camp to Spain with a minor hamstring injury from what Alex Neil’s said."
The striker's performances in Scotland earned him a recall to the Scotland squad and helped Aberdeen end their 35-year wait for major silverware. However, Ball remains firm in his belief that Millwall should move on.
"Yeah, he’s one that I would personally be looking to sell, and try to recoup some of the money we paid for him."
With Alex Neil now in charge at Millwall following Harris' departure, Nisbet's future remains unclear. Neil has yet to fully assess the striker, who is not with the rest of the Lion's squad on tour in Murcia, due to a minor hamstring injury.
With just one year remaining on his contract, Millwall face a crucial decision whether to give Nisbet another chance or cash in while they can still command a transfer fee - based on Ball's assessment, many supporters would prefer to see the club move in a different direction.
