Metro warning for fans travelling to Newcastle v West Ham on Saturday | OneFootball

Metro issues on Saturday for many of the Newcastle United fans heading to the West Ham match.

An announcement (see below) from Nexus explaining the situation.

With major work on the Metro system, Newcastle United fans advised to allow plenty of time to get to the game.

‘Newcastle fans heading to the West Ham game at St James’ Park on Saturday, 30 March, are advised to allow plenty of time to get there if travelling in on the Tyne and Wear Metro.

Buses will replace trains between Heworth and South Gosforth all weekend, 29 March to 1 April, while the second phase of a £3.4m track junction renewal project is completed in the Metro’s city centre tunnels under Newcastle.

Metro’s operator, Nexus, advises supporters going to the 12.30pm kick off on Saturday to allow more time to get to the game, and to get home afterwards.

Stuart Clarke, Metro Infrastructure Director, said: “This is the second phase of our major track junction renewal works in our city centre tunnels to ensure that this key asset is completely replaced.

“We’re asking customers to plan ahead and allow plenty of time to make their journeys on Metro when the line is closed. We have organised extra replacement buses to help customers get to where they need to be. My thanks go to customers for their patience while the line closures are in place.”

No Metro trains will stop at Monument platforms 3 or 4. Trains will run through the platforms without stopping. Any customers who would usually travel to or from Monument platform 3 or 4 should use Manors or St James station.

Central Station will be fully closed during the work.

The replacement bus service number 900, will run between Heworth and South Gosforth in both directions.

The bus will continue from South Gosforth to Regent Centre to turn for the return trip. Some of the buses will begin/end service outside of the areas mentioned, please view the replacement bus timetable for details.

Extra replacement buses will be running on Saturday and there will be extra trains on the Metro heading into Newcastle from the North Tyneside coast via Wallsend. Customers from in North Tyneside advised to travel direct to St James (Monument closed) via Whitley Bay.

Customers in from South Shields have option of traveling via Shields Ferry to North Shields and then catching the Metro from North Shields Metro station to St James.’
