Frank McAvennie fears Jack Hendry “cannot hack it” at Celtic despite an impressive loan spell at KV Oostende.

The Parkhead legend, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, slammed the 25-year-old for being “arrogant” when he arrived to the club from Dundee FC in January 2018.

Hendry has spent the 2020-21 campaign on loan at Belgian outfit KV Oostende and has made 24 appearances across all competitions.

As revealed by Football InsiderCeltic are powerless to stop Hendry from engineering a Premier League move this summer, with Oostende set to trigger their optional £1.75million purchase clause.

A three-times Scotland international, Hendry will have one year left on his Hoops contract come June.

When asked for his assessment of the defender’s future, McAvennie told Football Insider:

“Listen, Hendry got his chance here and he didn’t take it.

“Celtic are a massive club and some players cannot hack it. It has happened to great players.

“Unfortunately, when Jack moved here he was a bit arrogant and the fans picked up on it. He was not performing at a level that deserved that arrogance. He got lots of game time when he first came but he did not stand out.

“He was only a young boy though, so who is to say that he won’t come back and do it second time around?

“My worry is, there is no pressure over there. There is a massive difference between playing in Belgium and playing for Celtic.

“In the last year he may have grown up and he might be able to hack it, who knows.”
