Speaking to Sky Germany about Eintracht Frankfurt’s pursuit of Mario Götze, Martin Hinteregger believes the World Cup winner would be an excellent signing for the Bundesliga side.
“I don’t know him personally, but he would be an excellent fit for us as a player. That’s exactly what we need, it’s what we lost with Amin Younes last year,” said Hinteregger.
It emerged on Friday that Eintracht Frankfurt want to sign Götze, who has a reported exit clause of €4m. The Hessian club also face competition from Benfica and Inter Miami to sign the former Borussia Dortmund attacker.
The 30-year-old has two-years remaining on his contract at PSV but with the departure of head coach Roger Schmidt to Benfica, the German could follow his compatriot out of the Dutch club.
Alluding to Younes, the 28-year-old scored four and created three in 28 games for Eintracht Frankfurt during an 18 month loan spell before joining Saudi Arabian side Al-Ettifaq.
Eintracht Frankfurt also have to deal with the expiring contracts of Filip Kostić and Daichi Kamada, both of whom are entering their final year and could potentially be sold if they fail to reach an agreement for an extension.
