The German international moves to Frankfurt on a contract valid until 30 June 2030.
Eintracht Frankfurt have secured the services of striker Jonathan Burkardt. The 24-year-old joins the Champions League participants from Bundesliga rivals 1. FSV Mainz 05.
Born in southern Hesse, Burkardt began his football career in the SV Darmstadt 98 academy before moving to Mainz in 2014. Following several successful years at youth level with the Rhine-Hesse club, Burkardt established himself as a first-team regular and as one of the top goalscorers in the Bundesliga. He has made 136 appearances in the German top flight to date, registering 41 goals and 12 assists. The forward netted 18 times in 29 league games for Mainz last season as well as providing three assists, making him the fourth-best marksman in the Bundesliga and the top German scorer.
The 24-year-old has also represented the German national team since October of last year, when he made his debut for Julian Nagelsmann’s side in the Nations League match against Bosnia and Herzegovina. Prior to that, Burkardt went through all the German youth teams from U15 level, playing a total of 44 games.
Board member for sport Markus Krösche: “Jonny has a lot of qualities that will benefit our game. He has proven his finishing ability at Mainz, just as he has his tactical understanding. He’s an absolute team player on and off the pitch. We’re pleased that we’ve managed to bring a German international striker to Eintracht.”
Jonathan Burkardt: “The talks with Dino Toppmöller, Markus Krösche and Timmo Hardung were trusting and positive from the start. I was shown a clear sporting outlook which immediately enthused me. I’m very happy to now be part of Eintracht Frankfurt and am massively looking forward to playing for this special club from this season.”
