After ending his playing career in June at the age of 29, former Eintracht Frankfurt and Austria international defender Martin Hinteregger has since been playing striker in amateur football for his youth club, Sirnitz.
“When I come to my village, everyone knows me and know how I grew up and really am,” Hinteregger told ServusTV. “I just want to have some fun and play with the boys.”
When asked about a possible comeback to professional football, the Austrian said: “I think it’s very, very unlikely. But never say never.”
Hinteregger played for RB Salzburg before joining Borussia Mönchengladbach and having a career in the Bundesliga with Augsburg and Eintracht Frankfurt. After Die Adler’s Europa League win against Rangers last season, SGE qualified for the Champions League group stages.
“Playing in the Champions League is the greatest thing about the World Cup,” added Hinteregger. “Every child dreams of that. Of course, it would appeal to me, it’s quite logical. But I also know how much work is behind it.”
