Marseille’s Leonardo Balerdi attracting Atletico Madrid interest | OneFootball

Olympique de Marseille centre-back Leonardo Balerdi (25) is attracting interest from a range of clubs, including La Liga giants Atletico Madrid, according to L’Équipe.

After arriving from Borussia Dortmund, Balerdi has, over the course of his four years at the Vélodrome, established himself as a key player. Few players remain at Marseille for such a period of time with the club known to move players on after just two years. However, the Argentinian centre-back may depart this summer after what has been his most impressive season for Les Phocéens.

In January, Napoli pushed to sign Balerdi but Gennaro Gattuso, OM manager at the time, was promised that his defence would not be compromised going into the second part of the season. The player himself has also wanted to remain with Marseille in the past, notably when Bologna came knocking in 2022, however, both the player and the club are now aligned, according to L’Équipe.

This summer is the right time for Balerdi and Marseille to part ways. He won’t be short of suitors, with Atletico Madrid a notable interested party.
