The Estadio Metropolitano will not see a full capacity for either of Atlético Madrid’s final two home games of the season after they received a partial stadium ban as a punishment for the racial abuse Nico Williams suffered when Athletic Bilbao played there on Saturday.

This information comes courtesy of Diario Sport, who report that the area of the stadium from which the racist abuse originated will be closed for Atleti’s final two home games of the season.

In addition, Atlético Madrid receive a fine of €20,000 for the abuse that was aimed at Nico Williams.

A statement released by the RFEF disciplinary committee read: ‘the sanctioned club is required to identify, before 12:00 noon on 3 May, the structure of the stands of the stadium in order to determine the area of the stadium to be closed, which, according to the referee’s report, would affect the area located in the south stand of the stadium‘.

This news comes after several players showed their support for Nico Williams, in messages of solidarity sent to the youngster.
