According to L’Équipe, Olympique de Marseille hope to avoid the mistakes of the past by announcing their next manager before the end of May. The club hierarchy believes that part of why this season has been such a disaster was because they delayed appointing a successor to Igor Tudor until late June.
They believe that the protracted search did not help the club settle into a rhythm under Marcelino and can be partly to blame for the slow start to the season. This is something they are desperate to change with the appointment of their next manager.
The identity of that next appointment remains no clearer. Paulo Fonseca is the priority target after his work with Lille OSC, but the Portuguese head coach will not decide anything about his future until after the final game of the campaign on Sunday.
However, the Marseille president was reported to have met with Porto’s manager Sérgio Conceição on Thursday as the club remains committed to keeping their options open in case Fonseca decides against joining the project.
