According to a report from Foot Mercato, Olympique de Marseille have ruled out triggering their option to purchase Ismaël Bennacer (27) from AC Milan, but that does not mean that the Algerian international does not have a future in the South of France. Foot Mercato writes that Marseille would be keen to negotiate a new loan for the midfielder.
Previous reports have suggested that Marseille were reluctant to bring Bennacer back on his current terms, as he is thought to be one of the higher earners in the squad. However, perhaps a new deal would open the way for the Ligue 1 runners-up.
Bennacer initially impressed during his six-month spell in La Provence; his debut from the bench during the match against Angers SCO promised a player who would control Roberto De Zerbi’s midfield. However, he struggled to maintain this level, and concerns over his fitness emerged, particularly considering he missed twenty games with Milan at the start of the season due to a muscle tear.
