Former Chelsea defender Mario Melchiot has claimed that he knows what Blues boss Enzo Maresca is currently telling his players.

Things are going from good to dream land for Chelsea right now as they push on this season. Nobody expected Chelsea to be at the dizzy heights of second in the league after beating Brentford 2-1 on Sunday thanks to goals from Marc Cucurella and Nicolas Jackson.

EXCLUSIVE! Chelsea ‘seriously consider’ January approach for Premier League centre back!!

Liverpool have a game in hand, but Chelsea are now just two points behind them, and two points ahead of Arsenal who are behind them in third place.

It’s literally a dream right now for Chelsea supporters, who will absolutely be feeling that they could actually now be in the title race, despite their manager and some of the players too, playing it down and refusing to talk about the title right now.

Melchiot believes he knows why Maresca is playing down the title talk though and what he is telling his players behind the scenes.

Defend better

Melchiot in his Chelsea days

Melchiot said earlier this week, in words quoted by Chels HQ:

“What Enzo Maresca is really telling his players is, ‘guys, if you defend better, we can win this league’. That’s what he’s doing, but he’s doing it so subtle. Do you really think in the dressing room he isn’t telling them he wants to win it?”

Chelsea’s defensive issues has been what has held them back a little bit this season to be honest, but then if they keep doing what they are doing and just scoring more than the opposition, then it really isn’t a problem at all, is it!?

Chelsea seem to concede goals still, but they are also scoring goals for fun and just making sure they score more than the team they are playing against, which is the game I guess.
