Marc Guehi’s absence from Crystal Palace’s upcoming pre‑season friendly against Mainz has been confirmed as purely fitness-related - not linked to any imminent transfer.
According to the BBC, the England international is training with the first team but is being carefully eased back into action as a precaution following a minor issue. He is expected to return to full involvement in the coming days.
Speculation surrounding Guehi’s future has ramped up in recent weeks amid growing interest from Liverpool. The Reds are reportedly considering making an approach for the 25-year-old centre-back, who is now in the final year of his contract at Selhurst Park.
With Jarell Quansah sold to Bayer Leverkusen and Joe Gomez ruled out of pre‑season action due to a minor Achilles injury, Liverpool's senior centre-back options have been significantly reduced.
Despite the mounting interest, Crystal Palace have yet to discuss any transfer exit, and sources stress that Guehi is not absent due to ongoing negotiations or imminent departure. Instead, the club emphasises that his temporary lay-off is part of a managed return to full match fitness.
Liverpool, on their end, appear ready to pursue Guehi, who could help fill the defensive void left by recent departures and injuries. TalkSPORT have reported that Liverpool remain odds-on favourites for his signature, edging ahead of rivals such as Tottenham, Chelsea and Newcastle, should a deal materialise. Similarly, Football Insider suggests that Liverpool are preparing a fresh approach in the near future.
As it stands, Guehi continues to be integrated into the Crystal Palace squad, with no indication that his absence is anything other than a short-term precaution. Both Palace and Liverpool supporters will now await formal clarification over whether a transfer will follow once the defender regains full fitness.
