Manchester United will battle AC Milan for the signature of Argentine ace Facundo Medina

According to Italian outlet Calciomercato (h/t The Hard Tackle), AC Milan have entered the race to sign Manchester United target Facundo Medina.

The Argentine has become a regular starter for League 1 club Lens in recent seasons. A reliable defender, his performances have not gone unnoticed by the bigger clubs. There is every chance that he could be set for a move to one such place in the transfer windows to come.

AC Milan have some doubts over the availability of Alessio Romagnoli, who has been linked with several clubs, including Barcelona, in recent times. This uncertainty has obliged them to target a defender, and they have settled their eyes on Medina.

Man United have also been following the 22-year-old for a long time. It was believed that the arrival of Raphael Varane has somehow tempered their interest. But, it seems the Red Devils have now rekindled their quest for the youngster.

Despite the arrival of Varane from Real Madrid this summer, United’s defence remains a cause of concern. The backline has allowed some easy goals this season and has shown vulnerability on a regular basis.

Man United’s made Harry Maguire the world’s most expensive defender in 2019. The only time the skipper could be associated with the words ‘good defender’ is if it was used in a pun. The English international has put in some laughably questionable performances and is more of a burden than an asset.

At the same time, Eric Bailly has also made some errors leading to goals of late. The other United defender, Victor Lindelöf’s performance, continues to impress and frustrate in equal measure.

Manchester United have a plethora of talent up front but lack the solidity that a stable defence brings to the table. The gaps have emerged this season, pushing the Manchester-based team to 8th position in the table.

Medina has shown maturity in his game, and his age makes him a potentially long term investment. After all, he cannot be worse than what we already have at the club.
