With the football on hold at the moment, we’ve been thinking about who gets in Manchester City’s all-time XI.

Today we’re choosing the left-back.

Here are the nominees …

3rd – Aleksandar Kolarov

‘The Serbian Roberto Carlos’ joined City from Lazio in the summer of 2010 and went on to make 247 appearances for the club over seven years.

With his foot like a traction engine, Kolarov is better remembered for being a dead ball specialist than a defender and he netted a total of 21 goals during his time Manchester.

His medal collection reads: Two Premier League titles, two League Cups and the FA Cup.

Not bad at all.

2nd – Gaël Clichy

Competing with Kolarov for the left-back spot for much of the time they shared at City was Clichy.

The Frenchman joined the Blues from Arsenal in the summer of 2011 and made 28 league appearances in his first season at the club as City clinched their first league title of the Premier League appearances.

The complete opposite of Kolarov, Clichy was a better defender than attacker and he scored just three times in 203 games.

But his reliability played a fundamental part in the five major honours won during his time at the Etihad.

And the winner is … Glyn Pardoe

A local lad, Pardoe became City’s youngest ever player when he made his debut in 1962 at the age of just 15 years and 314 days old.

He went on to make the left-back position his own in one of the most successful eras in the club’s history, winning the First Division title, the FA Cup, the League Cup and the Uefa Cup Winners’ Cup.

Pardoe was sadly forced to retire when he broke his leg as the result of a horrific tackle from Manchester United’s George Best in 1970.

But his City legacy lives on through grandson Tommy Doyle, who made his first-team debut earlier this season.

Here’s how the team is looking so far …

GK: Bert Trautmann RB: Pablo Zabaleta LB: Glyn Pardoe

Check back tomorrow and Monday when we will be choosing Manchester City’s greatest ever … centre-backs.
