Manchester City begin their FIFA Club World Cup campaign against Wydad AC this evening.
Pep Guardiola’s side head into the tournament aiming to conclude a challenging campaign with silverware. City have strengthened their squad early in the window and each of the club’s four new arrivals are with the squad in the United States.
The Citizens are bidding to win the trophy for a second time, having claimed Club World Cup success in 2023. Rodri was named winner of the Golden Ball at those finals and is hoping to feature after long-term injury.
Opponents Wydad qualified for the Club World Cup as winners of the 2021/22 CAF Champions League. Last season, Wydad finished third in Morocco’s top flight.
Pep Guardiola could hand debuts to several new signings this evening. Tijjani Reijnders, Rayan Cherki and Rayan Ait-Nouiri have all arrived at the Etihad this summer, alongside back-up goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli.
City have a near full-strength squad to choose from with only Mateo Kovacic absent. The Croatian midfielder has been left at home to recover from a heel issue.
Man City predicted XI: Ederson; Nunes, Khusanov, Gvardiol, Ait-Nouri; Reijnders, Gonzalez; Cherki, Marmoush, Doku; Haaland.
Manchester City face Wydad AC in the FIFA Club World Cup on Wednesday 18th June 2025. Kick-off is 5pm BST.
In the UK, the game will be televised live on 5 (formerly known as Channel 5). The fixture can also be streamed via DAZN.
