Manchester United target Cody Gakpo is “gettable”, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Erik ten Hag has made three signings since becoming Red Devils manager, but the Dutchman is yet to add any attacking reinforcements, although compatriot Gakpo is on United’s list.

What’s the latest news involving Gakpo?

According to Sky Sports, the Old Trafford club are ‘preparing’ a move for the talented winger, who’s also attracted attention from both Arsenal and Leeds following his exploits for PSV last season.

The report claims that Gakpo, who shares the same agency as Ten Hag, could be available for just £35m.

This comes after United withdrew their interest in ex-West Ham ace Marko Arnautovic, while they’ve missed out on signing Benjamin Sesko, who joined RB Leipzig, and Darwin Nunez.

Meanwhile, Ten Hag also has doubts over the future of Cristiano Ronaldo, who made his comeback against Brighton on Sunday, but has expressed his desire to leave following the club’s failure to qualify for the Champions League.

As a result, United could plot a move for Gakpo and Jones reckons that bringing the young winger to Old Trafford is definitely possible.

What did Jones say about Gakpo?

He told GIVEMESPORT: “I have seen Leroy Sane linked, but they don’t feel like he’s that gettable at the moment.

It wouldn’t surprise me if United do try and get Gakpo, though, because there could be something to be done there.”

Why do United want Gakpo?

Gakpo might not be the marquee signing the United faithful are hoping for, but at £35m, there aren’t many better players for that money in the current market.

With Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho’s struggles highlighted against Brighton once again, the Red Devils need genuine quality in the final third, and Gakpo could provide them with exactly that.

The 23-year-old registered 21 goals and added 16 assists for PSV last season, with seven of his goals coming in various European competitions, while he contributed 25 goals in 27 Eredivisie matches.

Gakpo’s lack of Premier League experience might be a slight concern for those at Old Trafford, but his overall record at PSV, which currently stands at 80 goal involvements in 138 games, suggests that he’s ready for top-flight football in England.
