Manchester United are zeroing in on several Premier League strikers in search of offensive solutions. With Rubén Amorim at the helm, the club want to strengthen their attack ahead of the new season. The Portuguese coach has already made it clear that he needs players capable of creating clear chances and converting them.
The recent signing of Matheus Cunha raised more questions than answers. The Brazilian arrived with high expectations, but his performance has left the impression that something is still missing in the final third of the pitch. In this situation, the name of Christopher Nkunku has resurfaced as an option.
According to information published by The Mirror, Manchester United have received a specific figure: £35 million for the French striker from Chelsea. Nkunku, signed from RB Leipzig for £52 million, seemed like a safe bet. In Germany, he showed creativity, pace and goalscoring ability.
However, at Stamford Bridge, the story has been different. Injuries have prevented the striker from taking off, and his role has been diluted. Chelsea, for their part, have moved quickly in the transfer market, signing João Pedro and Liam Delap, while the arrival of young Jamie Gittens has also been finalised.
The Nkunku case deserves a cold review. Chelsea cannot continue to bet on a player who has failed to adapt or find consistency. Although his potential is not in doubt, his presence in London is irrelevant. The club need space and clarity, especially after spending on new talent. Letting him go would be a logical decision. But the price tag is the sticking point. Is it fair to pay £35 million for someone who has barely played in a year? For Manchester United, it could be an opportunity if the risk is managed well. Nkunku needs to leave, and Chelsea, frankly, need to let go. If both do, they can win, even if it’s for different reasons.
