According to The Sun, Manchester United shall now have to pay a severance package of £7.5million to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on account of sacking him after the Watford defeat.
There was a lot of drama at Vicarage Road on Saturday evening. The Hornets started the game in an encouraging fashion and won a penalty in the opening minutes. David de Gea turned hero for United as he saved the spot-kick and did so again after Ismaila Sarr was asked to retake it.
However, they found two goals before the end of the first half. The Red Devils retaliated in the second half as Donny van de Beek scored just five minutes after coming into the game.
The chances of a come-back were ruined after Harry Maguire was sent off with a second yellow card offence. Watford never stopped and went on to score twice in added time as Claudio Ranieri won his first league game in charge of the men in yellow.
However, things were on the opposite end of the spectrum for Solskjaer. The Norwegian was seen bidding goodbye to the fans and thanking them for their support. The club confirmed on Sunday afternoon that they have fired the former United striker.
The club shall now have to pay him the full year’s salary as a severance package. That shall amount to £7.5million, a hefty pay-out indeed.
Moreover, they shall also have to incur more expenses for the replacement of the 48-year-old. Zinedine Zidane, Brendan Rodgers, and Mauricio Pochettino are viable options, but the latter duo are employed at other clubs.
Regardless, the axe has been dropped on Solskjaer, new changes are set to take place at the theatre of dreams.
