In a recent report, The Sun mentioned that Chelsea are keeping tabs on Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo. It has been revealed that the Blues would have to rival Tottenham Hotspur in the race to land the English talent this off-season.

Mainoo’s Impressive Run Of Form In The Premier League

The 20-year-old struggled to find consistency with his performances at the heart of Ruben Amorim’s midfield in the previous campaign. Mainoo registered two goals and secured one assist in 37 matches for the Red Devils last season in all competitions.

The English sensation anchored the midfield well at times for Man United as he made 46 tackles, 16 blocks and 19 interceptions in the Premier League. He was excellent when distributing the ball from midfield after making 86.5% of his attempted passes in the top tier of English football (stats via fbref.com).

His current contract at the Mancunian club will run out in the summer of 2027. Thus, Chelsea would have to launch a big offer if they are serious about signing Mainoo this off-season.

Should Chelsea Boss Enzo Maresca Go For Mainoo?

Mainoo is a solid tackler of the ball and can sense the danger well to earn possession back for his team at the centre of the park. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the offensive.

The English sensation is an accurate passer of the ball as well, but needs to add more goals and assists to his game. He is primarily a box-to-box midfielder but can also play as a defensive midfielder or in the number ten position if asked to do so.

Mainoo would add more bite and steel to Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca’s midfield department. He is good enough to serve as a decent squad player for the West London club next season.

At 20, Mainoo has got the potential to be a future star in English football. Therefore, he would be a great signing for the Blues to pull off in the long run. With all things considered, Chelsea would be wise to step up their efforts to land Mainoo before the end of this transfer window.
