Transfer News: Liverpool set to beat Manchester United in the race for Bobby Clark

According to the Daily Star, Liverpool are set to beat Manchester United for the signing of Bobby Clark. The midfielder wants to move away from Newcastle in the hopes to play first-team football. Chelsea were also thought to be in the race for Clark.

The 16-year-old is the son of former Newcastle and Sunderland star Lee Clark and has been making waves at the youth level. When he was 14, he broke into the U-18’s side, highlighting his development beyond his early teenage years.

His performances have seen the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United show interest. However, as it stands, Liverpool appear to have left their rivals behind in the race to land the teenager. The Reds have placed their faith in youth in recent years and this has played a key role in influencing Clark’s decision.

Clark wants to leave Newcastle as he sees the path to the first team blocked. That means he will leave the Toons without even kicking the ball once for the senior side. His father, of course, went on to play for them more than 200 games during his playing days and was a legendary name for the Magpies.

Nonetheless, Manchester United walk home empty from this with the youngster set on moving to Liverpool. Not a lot can be done here as the player wants regular first team football, something United cannot offer him at this stage.
