Manchester City are facing up the prospect of ‘up to four weeks’ without Kevin De Bruyne after the influential midfielder sustained a hamstring injury in the 2-0 win over Aston Villa.

De Bruyne was forced off early in the second half of the victory over Villa and the club’s medical staff now expect the star to miss a minimum of two-three weeks with the complaint, though have not ruled out a month absence for the Belgium international.

According to the Mirror, City will take a patient approach with the 29-year-old’s recovery and will not rush him back into the side, with De Bruyne set to miss clashes against Cheltenham in the FA Cup fourth round and Premier League fixtures against West Brom, Sheffield United and Burnley.

Pep Guardiola’s side then face title rivals Liverpool in a huge clash on February 7 and that fixture is also expected to come too soon, before difficult looking games against both Tottenham and Arsenal.

City have enjoyed an excellent run of form in recent weeks with the victory over Villa extending their run to eight consecutive wins in all competitions, the club currently two points behind league leaders Manchester United with a game in hand.

De Bruyne has once again starred during the current campaign and ranks second in the Premier League for assists with 10, in addition to scoring three league goals.

City will hope to get the midfielder fit and firing in time for the resumption of the Champions League, with a last-16 first leg against Borussia Monchengladbach also looming on February 24.
