Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne has reacted to his landmark headed goal against Brighton on Thursday evening.

The 32-year-old opened the scoring at the Amex Stadium on Thursday night, as Manchester City continued their unbeaten streak and moved to just one point behind Arsenal with a 0-4 win over Brighton.

De Bruyne headed the Sky Blues into the lead in the 17th minute, before two goals from Phil Foden saw Pep Guardiola’s side move into a 0-3 half-time advantage.

Julian Alvarez netted his first goal since January to further extend Manchester City’s lead in the second-half, with the victory also seeing the Cityzens leapfrog Liverpool in the table after Jurgen Klopp’s side suffered another Premier League defeat.

De Bruyne’s opening goal was his sixth of the campaign, and first ever headed goal in the Premier League, despite making 252 league appearances for Manchester City between 2015 and 2024.

The Belgian international looped a headed effort into the top corner following Kyle Walker’s cross, with the right-back providing two assists on Thursday night on the south coast.

Reflecting on his unlikely headed effort post-match, De Bruyne joked: “It’s not something I am good at!”

“It doesn’t happen too much. Kyle [Walker] gave a good cross and I think the only way I could reach it is by jumping to it. I will take it but it’s not something I am good at!

“It was a good game. I think we played really good in the first-half and every game is a lot of pressure. All we can do is prepare as we did today and win the game that is in front of us.”

Manager Guardiola also commented on De Bruyne’s exceptional header, saying: “It was a great header. He’s more than welcome if he wants to try it again.”

The 32-year-old could have the opportunity to score another header on Sunday afternoon, when Manchester City visit Nottingham Forest, looking to continue their pursuit of a fourth successive Premier League title.
