Manchester City academy graduate Taylor Harwood-Bellis (19) recently joined Blackburn Rovers on loan until the end of the season, and the youngster has revealed what the club told him prior to the move.
Harwood-Bellis has made eight first-team appearances under Pep Guardiola’s era following his debut in September 2019 against Preston North End.
With the likes of Ruben Dias, John Stones, Aymeric Laporte and Nathan Ake ahead of the England Under-20 international in the pecking order, City decided it was time to allow the defender to leave to gain more experience of professional football.
The loan last season to Blackburn of Tosin Adarabioyo, who subsequently earned a move to Premier League side Fulham, was a factor behind City’s decision, Harwood-Bellis revealed.
“Man City said that Blackburn was a great club, that they’d got that experience of what they’d done with Tosin [Adarabioyo], so they said it would be good for me to go and try and replicate that…”, he said.
The defender added: “He progressed and is now playing in the Premier League so hopefully I can follow in his footsteps. The club were really good to him, he got his opportunity and did really well.”
Harwood-Bellis started on the bench for Rovers match today away at QPR, but, like Tosin, he will be hopeful that he will be provided with an opportunity which the youngster should be able to seize, given the qualities he has displayed in his time at City.
