Manchester City have formally announced the club’s intent to withdraw from the European Super League project.
They are the first of the 12 clubs to do so in the wake of Sunday’s announcement.
In a brief statement on Tuesday night, they confirmed the decision, without citing a reason for doing so.
“Manchester City can confirm that it has formally enacted the procedures to withdraw from the group developing plans for a European Super League,” read a City press release.
UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin has praised the decision from the current Premier League leaders and has ‘welcomed them back to the European football family’.
It is unclear where this leaves the Super League going forward.
