An early double from Ada Hegerberg was enough for Lyon to seal a tenth French Women’s Cup title, and get their revenge over a Paris Saint-Germain side that had knocked them out at the last 16 stage last season.

The Norwegian’s opener was a shot from range fired into the bottom corner, before a similar strike across goal, this time closer up, saw the former Ballon d’Or winner complete her double within 25 minutes. The Parisians would pull one back from the spot ten minutes later through Ramona Bachmann, but ultimately Les Fenottes would remain untroubled for the rest of the game.

The two sides meet again next week, this time with the league title at stake – Lyon sit three points ahead of their main rivals, with the upcoming matchday being the second-to-last set of games. Sonia Bompastor’s side are aiming for a 16th league title, in what would be a fitting send-off for Jean-Michel Aulas – the departing club president was a teary-eyed spectator in Orléans this afternoon – who oversaw Lyon’s development into the major power of women’s football in the 2000s.
