The Hatters are set to sign Ali Al-Hamadi on loan with a £3m obligation to buy.
Luton Town are set to complete the loan signing of Ipswich Town striker Ali Al-Hamadi ahead of the 7pm transfer deadline.
The Hatters have reportedly struck an agreement with the Tractor Boys after weeks of speculation to take him for the season, which includes an obligation to buy, as per Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth.
The package is expected to cost £3m in total.
Luton have started their League One campaign well under Matt Bloomfield, winning four of their opening six league games and sitting narrowly outside the play-off places.
Despite losing talisman Carlton Morris to Derby County earlier this summer, it appears Luton have now fully stocked up their forward options, with the impending arrival of Al-Hamadi complimenting the earlier arrival of Nahki Wells.
As per an update from Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth, Luton Town are poised to complete a late swoop for Ipswich Town striker Ali Al-Hamadi.
The Hatters have maintained an interest in securing the services of the 23-year-old since July, and look set to finally land their long-term target to bolster the frontline ahead of an important third-tier schedule.
It is reported that the deal agreed is a loan for the remainder of the season, which includes an option to buy.
The package is expected to cost the Hatters £3m in total, with Al-Hamadi now on his way to Luton to complete a medical and finalise his move.
Luton have beaten off competition from Charlton Athletic and League One rivals Cardiff City for the services of the 12-cap Iraq international, who was of reported interest to the duo in August.
It brings an end to his Ipswich career that has been largely underwhelming, with Al-Hamadi netting five times in just 29 appearances, and he will be aiming to recapture form in the third-tier and help contribute towards a promotion push at Kenilworth Road.
While Luton Town have recruited the experienced Nahki Wells, the Hatters need a younger forward who can cope with the demands of a 46-game slog better than what the 35-year-old can, in order to fully replace the exit of Carlton Morris.
The step-up in class from League Two to the Championship has seemingly been too much for Al-Hamadi, so finding the middle ground in League One could be exactly what is needed to bring the best out of him and get the goals flowing.
The striker definitely has the presence to be a focal point and be a physical force in the third-tier, and this type of signing is exactly what Luton need to be well-equipped enough to take on the upcoming challenges they face.
This signing could offer a real boost to their promotion chances, and if he can hit the ground running, then you’d expect Luton Town to be occupying the automatic promotion places sooner rather than later.
