Luis Suarez enjoyed a dream debut with Gremio, netting a stunning first-half hat-trick for the Brazilian outfit.
It took Suarez, who turns 36 next week, just 38 minutes to score his first three goals for his new club.
Suarez’s magic helped Gremio secure a 4-1 victory over Sao Luiz – and the Recopa Gaucha Super Cup title.
One of the greatest strikers of his generation, the Uruguay international returned to South America after leaving Atletico Madrid last year.
He initially returned to his boyhood club, Nacional, where he scored eight goals in 16 appearances.
A short-term deal to ensure that he was fresh for the Qatar World Cup, Suarez was unable to drag his beloved national team out of Group H.
But it appears that he’s already put that disappointment firmly behind him.
The former Liverpool and Barcelona superstar, who is unquestionably one of the greatest forwards of his generation, scored the first goal of his Gremio career after just five minutes.
Suarez put his new team 1-0 up by lobbing the ball over the opposition goalkeeper and into the back of the net with an exquisite first-time flick.
He then put Gremio 3-1 up in the 31st minute with a typically composed finish.
And Suarez completed his hat-trick in style shortly afterwards, smashing the ball into the net on the volley.

He might be in his mid-30s now but he’s clearly still got it.
What a player.
Suarez was subbed off 14 minutes into the second half and left the pitch to a standing ovation.
Debut don’t get much better than that, do they?
“I think so [biggest debut], the last time I scored in my debut was with Atletico [Madrid],” Suarez told Sportv, per ESPN.
Gremio coach Renato added: “It couldn’t have been better his debut. The fans believe in him, so are we.
“He showed what he came for. He quickly made it into the group because he’s a very humble person. He doesn’t want the highlights or perks, he just want to be like everyone else.”
Suarez turned down opportunities with clubs in Major League Soccer and Saudi Arabia to join Gremio at the end of December.
Gremio were promoted back to Brazil’s top flight from Serie B following the conclusion of the 2022 season.
